Marvel's Leading Ladies
Sue Storm/Invisible Woman Invisibility and Force Field Abilities Susan (Sue) Storm insisted on going into space with Ben Grimm, Reed Richards, and Johnny Storm. While out in space was hit with cosmic waves, altering the genetic structure of the four people on the ship. Sue was given powers that would turn her invisible and create forcefields. She married Reed Richards, and together they started a family. However, through all of this Sue still remained a powerful woman. She was able to be a superhero in a team of all men and still hold the responsibilities of a wife and mother in a family. Susan Storm was one of the first Marvel superheroines. She started a family with Richards and did not let that stop her from being a superhero. She was a more standard woman for the time of her creation, but unlike common practice, she did not give up her job of being a superhero, and become a stay-at-home mom. While this is not the path for everyone, she did not let anyone tell her what she could or could not do. She controlled her future, making her by far one of the most powerful and inspiring women in the Marvel Universe. |
The Lady Sif Warrior in Asgard's Army and Thor's Personal Friend From Thor, when Thor rallies his friends to fight with him: "Thor: And who proved wrong all who scoffed at the idea that a young maiden could be one of the fiercest warriors this realm has ever known? Sif: I did!" Sif truly is one of the fiercest warriors in all of Asgard's army. She is loyal and strong and extremely skilled with hand-to-hand combat. Sif's only "supernatural" power is the Asgardian immortality, but that is not a trait unique to her. She often wields a sword, a weapon of power and might, two things she symbolizes. Sif is well respected amongst her peers and anyone who attempts to belittle her because of her sex is vilified and almost immediately defeated, proving that she is not someone to be trifled with. Another woman with immense power, yet no supernatural aid, Sif continues to stand as proof to the fact that women are equal to men. She stands for what's right, and never lets anything or anyone distract her from the task at hand, which almost always happens to be saving the world. |
